A Fancifully Foolish Fight Prediction from Zack Rutherford

GSP vs. Nick Diaz is one of the most anticipated Welterweight match-ups of the year. This match was originally supposed to happen close to two years ago, but was delayed multiple times due to injury, drug test failures, and mysterious disappearances during important media obligations. Now with the advent of the insane conference call between the challenger and champion that came out earlier this week, tension is at an all-time high, and the fans are likely to be treated to one of the great grudge matches in welterweight history. I am predictably a little over excited. So excited in fact, that I have envisioned the match from start to finish in minute detail. And if I were emperor of the universe, this is how the long reigning welterweight champion would perform in his 8th consecutive successful title defense:

UFC on FOX 5: Rundown&Fight Predictions

Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz is a fantastic matchup between two of the 155 lbs division’s premiere talents. Nate the younger of the two brawling brothers has earned his opportunity at UFC gold before his brother, which is pretty somewhat surprising when you think about it. Considering Nick was edged out in a very close number 1 contender spot by Carlos Condit. However, that’s another topic for another day. Nate is in the news now, and he’s got a good shot at taking out a very game Benson Henderson.

UFC 153 was EPIC

UFC  153 was EPIC. From start to finish there wasn’t a single bad fight. Even Jon Fitch delivered. Hell, he got fight of the night! Who saw that coming? I figured he would awkwardly hump his way to a decision victory as usual. Instead I’m treated to a highly technical, back and forth, grappling/ground &pound expo. He even survived a really bad spot to take...

The Curious Case of Stephan Bonnar

Who doesn’t love Stephan Bonnar? Seriously, if you’re rooting for Anderson Silva this Saturday you’re either Brazilian or an asshole. The American Psycho has had a pretty storied career, taking on names like Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Mark Coleman, Lyoto Machida, Krzysztof Soszynski, and let us not forget: Forest Griffin… twice. Now he’s adding the greatest of all time to that list. The Spider is looking to wrap the Psycho in a web of superior skill and drain the rest of his career’s lifeblood in a 3 round main event at UFC 153. It’s been marketed as the Rocky story of the year.

Fighter Profile: Stefan Struve

Stefan Struve, what an interesting, frustrating, intriguing, fascinating, irritating, and phenomenally talented fighter. He’s got great stand-up that he refuses to fully utilize, incredible submissions which are his most valuable asset to date, and guts for miles. I keep thinking he’s young, and yet I can’t shake the feeling the guy’s got a definite ceiling. If he could get his stand-up to the point where he’s actually bringing his reach into play, then I would say the sky’s the limit for this kid. And hell, he’s already scraping it. Ba Dum Tiss.

UFC 151 What a Cluster F***

Seriously. Is there yet another dramatic development we could have added to this mish-mash of mischanceful mayhem? I’m half expecting  to read about Randy Couture having called Dana White to come out of retirement and save the event. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, (Why are you reading this?) here’s the breakdown. there was...

Jab, Hook, Right.

he heavy bag, the heavy breath, and the heavy heart are all ablaze in bone breaking, knuckle busting, blood curdling motion. Hands sting like the sweat in your eyes and both serve only to turn up the heat of your intentions. The internal furnace that peaks and wanes along with your cross, low hook, high hook, right hook, sidestep, straight, feint, and hook.

A Fan’s Personal Note to Frankie Edgar

My heartfelt words to the former champion after what must have been a devastating decision at UFC 150. He lost a very close match on two out of three judges scorecards, and I for one think that those two judges were not exceptionally good at what they do.
